Dr. Alke Gröppel-Wegener is Associate Professor of Creative Academic Practice at Staffordshire University, where her teaching focus is Animation Studies. Her research interests include exploring the links between creative and academic practice, and she has developed a number of visual analogies and creative activities to help students understand ‘hidden’ academic practice, which have been collected in Writing Essays by Pictures, a workbook for students, and two companions: The Boardgame Blueprint (a visual overview of the process of essay writing in the form of a board game) and a series of Visual Soundbites postcards. She is currently exploring this work within the theoretical framework of regenring.
Alke presents her work regularly at national and international conferences and symposia, as well as designing and making artefacts connected to her research. In 2015 she was recognised by the Higher Education Academy and awarded a National Teaching Fellowship. She blogs about her work at www.tactileacademia.com. In her free time she makes artists books which can be found in collections around the world.
